Our Circle was instituted in June of 1996. We presently have 12 squires enrolled in our circle, but we are still trying to bring in more. At each meeting we have ideas on what we want to do with the money that we raise.
Some of the fund-raisers that we do are very different from your school fund-raisers. Some of the fund-raisers are for other places like money for charity funds. One famous fund-raiser, in which the Squires help the Knights of Columbus (The Adults), is to hand out Tootsie Rolls while asking for donations. We did this last Oct. and Nov. and each day came back with over $500!!! All of this money goes to local facilities for the mentally-handicapped such as Ruth Easson School, Marley Glen Special School and ARC-Respite Care Home.
Some of you may be saying, this is just a boring church group. They probably never have
any fun. Well, you're wrong! Our
monthly meeting is our business meeting and we go
through the meeting very thoroughly. During the second half of the month we have
entertainment night where we go to a games or watch movies. Also we plan other dates where
we can play basketball or baseball.
In our circle we have officers. They are people in charge of running the meeting, taking notes, and taking care of the materials.
Now for those parents reading this don't worry. There are Knights at each meeting guiding us and keeping us under control. They also give us ideas and also help us carry out our own. Although they are there we have to learn how to run the meeting ourselves. This is another great aspect of the Columbian Squires. You learn how to properly run a meeting and get things done. And if you ever need help, there is always a Knight nearby to help you.

Squires Circle News!
On Sunday, November 7th, 1999, 5 Squires joined District Deputy Jim Barrett and 6 Knights in the "Harvest for the Hungry Parade" through Pasadena! CS Tim Deters, DCS Matt Naylor, Justin Farinelli, FCS John Farinelli and Noah Glaeser rode in a convertible with Counselors Chris Goldsmith, the first former Squire of our Circle to become a Knight. Counselor Dan Deters, Tim's dad, also accompanied us. The Squires gave out candy to the children along the parade route and had a great time! Our Circle held two successful "Fish Frys" on the two successive Fridays that preceded Lent. Ten Squires worked these affairs and had the assistance of 6 Knights of Columbus! We served fresh haddock, "coddies," fresh rolls, french fries or potato salad, cole slaw, sodas, coffee, hot Maryland crab soup and home-baked desserts. The proceeds will be used by the Circle for our entertainment budget. The Circle volunteered to run games at the Annual Saint Jane Frances Parish Picnic on Sunday, June 4th, 2000. We ran the following games: the Water Balloon Toss, Water Pistol Target Shooting, Yard Dart Toss and Egg Races. The Circle held two successful "Spaghetti Dinners" in December and January. The December Dinner netted $185.00 which was donated to St. Vincent de Paul. The January Dinner netted $300.00 which will be donated to St. Jane Frances. The Circle attended the K of C Baseball Night on June
30th, 2000 and Kof C Baltimore Blast Night on January
13th, 2001. |
