Faith Formation for Children

First Holy CommunionSacrament Preparation

Parents of rising 2nd graders will be receiving information about Sacrament Preparation for the upcoming school year. Children who are SJF registered parishioners, going into second grade, baptized, and have had at least one year of Catholic Religious Ed or one year in a Catholic school are eligible to prepare for Confession and Communion. Older children who are baptized and have had one year of Catholic Religious Ed or Catholic school are also able to prepare. Contact the Religious Ed Office if you did not receive information.

Since I like to meet with families before starting the process, will you use the link below to pick a time to come and see me? I'd really like to meet both parents and your child, so please pick a time you can all come.

If you can't possibly make any of the times listed, contact the Religious Ed office at 410-255-4646 or

Please call the Religious Ed Office if you wish to prepare your child for the sacraments of Confession and Communion. (guidelines above apply)

A primary responsibility of Christian parents is to lead their children to faith in Jesus Christ and His Church. This includes teaching your child basic prayers and praying daily with your children. To help you with this, we are enclosing suggested basic prayers for families, so that if you are not already praying with your child(ren) you can begin now. Prayers are memorized not just to recite at the First Communion interview, but to give a lasting foundation in prayer and closeness with God.

A complete First Communion schedule will be available
at the Parent Meeting.

Children are expected to attend Sunday Religious Education, or Religion class in a Catholic school, as well as the parish preparation classes. Just as those preparing for the Baptism of a child, a wedding, or Confirmation have special preparation, so do children preparing for First Reconciliation and First Communion.

It is important that all registrations have the baptismal information completed in full. Those who were baptized at another Catholic parish are to present a copy of the baptismal certificate at the time of registration.

If your child has not been baptized, or was baptized in another denomination, please contact me as soon as possible.

For those of you with more than one child preparing for sacraments, please fill out separate forms for each child.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you at the parent meeting for First Reconciliation (tba).

God Bless,

Katie Torrey
Coordinator of Religious Education
