Home Teaching (K–8)

pic11Welcome to the St. Jane Frances de Chantal Home Teaching page. Here you will find information you need for using the Faith and Life Religion Series at home. Please contact the Religious Education office if you have any questions.

Suggestions for Home Teaching

  • Pray together as a family
  • Set aside a day and time for your lessons and stick to it. Once you start putting it off, you’ll quickly get behind. A single session, two shorter sessions… whatever works for you
  • Make the lessons apply to your lives
  • Be open to discussions that may come up
  • Use the chapter quizzes as a review for each chapter, then study from them when preparing for a unit test
  • Try to attend parish events that are age appropriate:
Parish Missions, Pancake Breakfast, Friday Fish Fry Dinners, SJF School St. Patrick’s Day Bazaar, Easter Egg Hunt etc, in order to stay connected to your parish home.
  • Attend Masses when the Religious Education students attend if possible

**Home teaching Religious Ed is obviously not a substitute for Sunday Mass. We all need the graces we receive at Mass, and our families need to feel part of a larger parish community. It’s counter-productive to teach your kids at home, then set a poor example by not going to Mass.

Faith and Life Online Series

The Faith and Life Religious Ed Series is also available in an interactive, on-line format for those who would like something other than a textbook/workbook model. Please contact the Religious Ed Office at 410-255-4646 if you’d like more information.

“Since parents have conferred life on their children, they have a most solemn obligation to educate their offspring. Hence, parents must be acknowledged as the first and foremost educators of their children. Their role as educators is so decisive that scarcely anything can compensate for their failure in it. For it devolves on parents to create a family atmosphere so animated with love and reverence for God and others that a well-rounded personal and social development will be fostered among the children. Hence, the family is the first school of those social virtues that every society needs.”

– Declaration on Christian Education (Pope Paul VI, October, 1965)
