Come celebrate with
us at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Church!
Dear Parishioners,
The Archbishop’s Annual Appeal is now underway. Archbishop O’Brien has asked that you make a pledge to the 2012 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. The Appeal not only funds the operations of the Archdiocese, it funds services that are of great help to the ministries here in our parish.
Jesus taught that God will never forget us. All that we have and all that we are is given to us by God. In thanksgiving for all that God gives to us, please give generously to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. Your gift will enable archdiocesan support of ministry, education, and service that touch thousands of lives not only in our Archdiocese but throughout the world.
Our parish receives 25% of each dollar contributed up to our goal of $76,400. Then, we receive 50% of the additional funds received. Please answer the Archbishop’s request and make a generous pledge. All pledges can be billed in ten monthly installments. Thank you in advance for your support!
Our mission is to be a family of Christian faith in the Roman Catholic Tradition, through faithful witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Word and Worship, and through a commitment to evangelize and energize the faith through unconditional love of, and service to the members of our Parish community, and the world in which we live.

Feb. 27, 28 & 29: Parish Mission with Fr. Nicholas Amato
“Prayer That Makes a Difference”
The goal of communication is not communication; it is communion. In our world of laptops, smart phones, and Kindles, we find ourselves communicating more and more, yet the bonding and communion with God, ourselves, and with our spouses has not kept pace with technology. We find ourselves even less understood, cared for, or nurtured by one another.
On our parish mission, we will learn the fine art of prayerful presence where God can be experienced directly. Such a way of praying can make a difference in our relationship with Jesus Christ and particularly in our marriages. From such prayer, we are able to “put on Christ,” as our very lives begin to flow to and from God, and we discover who we are “in God.” Join us for one or three evenings of self‐renewal and self‐understanding as we experience first‐hand how prayer can change lives, particularly ours.
Father Nicholas is a priest of the Archdiocese of Baltimore and has been ordained 40 years. He has served over 20 of them as a pastor. Father is a graduate of the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation and has done three‐month sabbaticals in Rome, in Israel, and at Mepkin (Trappist) Abbey in South Carolina. He serves as adjunct faculty at the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation in Washington, D.C, and in that capacity, teaches their Personal Spiritual Deepening Program: Living in God in the Baltimore Metropolitan Area. His full‐time ministry includes directing contemplative retreats, preaching parish missions, and offering days of recollection. He has Masters degrees in both Counseling and Theology, and a Doctorate in Educational Management.
7pm in the Upper Church on each evening.
Feb. 4, 18 & 25, 2012: Confirmation for Adults
Are you a Catholic who has never been confirmed? Do you wish to experience the fullness of the gifts of the Holy Spirit in your life by receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation? Archbishop Edwin O’Brien will be conferring the sacrament of Confirmation on adult Catholics (age 18 and older) on Sunday, March 18, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen. The Department of Evangelization of the Archdiocese of Baltimore in conjunction with the Basilica, will offer three sessions to prepare adults to receive this sacrament. The sessions are designed to review our core Catholic beliefs, practices and attitudes, discuss what it means to be a disciple in our Church today, and explore ways of living in a Catholic faith community guided by the Holy Spirit. The formation series will be held at the Catholic Center, 320 Cathedral Street, Baltimore, 21201, on Saturdays, February 4, 18, and 25 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. To register or for more information, please call Kathy Wandishin at 410-727-3565, X68 or email: kwandishin@baltimorebasilica.org.
Evening of Reflection for Men
Come join us as we spend time together in prayer, camaraderie, and faith building. We will be meeting weekly at 7:30pm in the Parish Center where we will spend time reflecting on the week's gospel and coming up with ways to apply it to our lives. Part of the evening will be a Study Group working through a book picked out to help us on our journey. The second book we will be using for Study Group is "Living The Catholic Faith" by Charles Chaput (current Archbishop of Philadelphia). RSVP to Dave Horvath at 301-213-1197 so that we can be prepared with enough books and refreshments for everyone. See calendar for dates/times.
St. Monica Ministry: Inviting Catholics Home

Our sessions offer prayer as well as an opportunity to share and discuss in a comfortable atmosphere. If you have been thinking about returning, here is your opportunity; now is your time. The Lord will welcome you. We will welcome you. We would love to see you at St. Jane's!
If you would like to find out about our next available sessions, please call John Ena (410-437-6522) or Kathy Vlcej (443-817-2260).
(Nov. 2011) Over forty years have passed since 1969 when the first translation of the Mass into English was first issued. Since that time, our ability to understand, articulate, and translate the words we use during Mass has improved, and a few minor, but noticeable, changes to the prayers used during Mass have recently been implemented. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and Life Teen have prepared a variety of videos which we have organized on our web site to help you to easily find them and watch at your convenience. Saint Jane Frances School designated as one of seven STEM schools in the Archdiocese
(Jan. 28, 2011) The Archdiocese of Baltimore announced Jan. 28, 2011 that it will offer Science, Technology, Engineering and Math programs in seven of its elementary schools, including Saint Jane Frances School. The Archdiocese of Baltimore’s Department of Catholic Schools developed a criteria and a process for designating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) schools, and Pasadena’s St. Jane Frances de Chantal School was one of the first to meet the criteria.
STEM schools will have continuous professional development for teachers, integrated use of computer technology and technology teaching tools, a successful advanced math track, data-driven decision-making, the presence of a science lab, and partnerships with businesses and/or universities focused on one or more STEM disciplines. St. Jane Frances de Chantal and St. Joan of Arc recently received federal grants to fund STEM-related professional development. Congratulations to all of the teachers, students, and administrators who've worked so hard to make sure that our school offers the best education available. Read more about it in the Catholic Review.
