Sacrament: an outward sign instituted by Christ to give grace
When Jesus died on the cross to redeem us, he purchased for us an inexhaustible flow of grace. This grace would be all that was needed for each man to turn back to God and then live with him in heaven for eternity!
What a gift!
Because this grace is truly a gift, God would not force it upon anyone. Instead, Jesus provided a way for each individual to receive this grace, if they so desired it. And he choose to do it by working with our nature as both physical and spiritual beings. So, the grace itself would be invisible (it has to be by its nature), and the way it was dispensed would be through the visible things.
Of course, there are many reasons for God choosing to use the visible to to bestow the invisible, but two are worth mentioning here. One is that this would keep us from deceiving ourselves and assuming we received grace when we really hadn’t. Then, on the other hand, it allows us to know with certainty when we have received it.
All Sacraments require a desire to receive the grace they offer. We are happy to work with all who want to know more about receiving these gifts of grace.
