Time for God by Jacques Philippe

The parish mission is an opportunity to set aside specific time to pray, meditate and reflect, and—most importantly—to do this as a pastorate community. It is a time for grace, repentance, and renewal of our relationship with God and each other. A Lenten Mission should be a pastorate awakening! A time for the whole pastorate to come together to reflect upon God’s word, to renew our faith, and to pray with open hearts and hands.

Fr. Jacques Philippe, a preacher of retreats in France and abroad, wrote his book “Time for God” to provide advice and orientation on “mental prayer”… prayer that disposes the heart and mind to God in solitude and silence in order to enter into intimate loving communication with Him, sometimes called contemplative prayer.

Leveraging Scripture and the advice of St. John of the Cross, St. Teresa of Avila, St. Therese of Lisieux, Fr. Philippe teaches us:

  • Why so many people who receive Holy Communion are not so holy.
  • Why people fail to develop a fruitful life of prayer.
  • Virtues necessary to receive the gift of prayer through grace.
  • How fidelity to God in prayer creates the capacity to be fully present to others and truly love them.

Our “vital and personal relationship with the living and true God… is prayer.”
